CMS adds infection data to Hospital Compare website

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services a(CMS) announced Tuesday it will add hospital infection rate data to its consumer website, Hospital Compare.

CMS said it is adding information on central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), the most serious of all healthcare-associated infections, resulting in thousands of deaths each year and nearly $700 million in added costs to the U.S. healthcare system.

Colorado leader in IT, but balks at insurance exchange

Colorado, which is a state leader on all things health IT, especially EHRs and HIEs, is digging in its heels when it comes to health insurance exchange. It  is one of the 26 states whose attorney general joined a lawsuit to overturn the health reform law.

The arguments are slated  to be heard by the Supreme Court in March.

eRx makes steady gains in California, report shows

Electronic prescribing is continues to grow steadily in California, potentially increasing the safety of the prescribing process, according to a new report from Cal eConnect. 

About 25 percent of the state's physicians are sending prescriptions electronically, the report estimates, compared with 3 percent in 2007. At the same time, just 16 percent of eligible prescriptions are routed electronically, despite the fact that most community pharmacies are set up for ePrescribing.
